Mii-dera Temple

I visited Mii-dera temple on a rainy day.

Mii-dera temple has many treasures.

Buddhist statues, picture scrolls, crafts etc.

The most famous is the statue of Yellow Fudo.

We can not usually see it.

Few years ago I visited

exhibition of Mii-dera temple treasures.

I was fascinated by them.

Since then I wanted to visit this temple.

Issaikyo-zo Hall

the scripture house containing

the complete Buddhist scriptures

(important cultural property)

Benkei and the bell he dragged along.

The temple bell has a episode.
A monks Benkei (a warrior monk) took
the bell away and dragged it up
to the summit of the mountain.
But the Bell said “I want to go back”
And Benkei then threw the bell down to the bottom of the valley.
The scars and cracks which can be seen on the bell are
said to be traces of this episode.

There are many sights to see!!
Please do try and go there sometime too!!

See you next on our trip!!
