There are 4 pilgrimage roads in the Kumano area.

1.Nakahechi road

It is the most famous road in this area.

It was an Imperial road. (Imperial family used this road)

2.Ohechi road

This road is along the coast.

3.Kohechi road

This road is a mountain road from Koyasan area.

4.Iseji

This road is from Ise shrine

There is a history that the Emperors came

to the Kumano Area from Kyoto.

I walked part of the Nakahechi road.

(About 3 hours)

I started from Hasshinmon-Oji.

A destination is Kumano Hongu shrine.

Oji are small shrines like a signposts along the road.

I saw many Oji on the way.

I walked on the roadway for a while.

I entered the mountain path.

It is Oji.

There are many guide plates,

no worry of getting lost.

Mizunomi-Oji

The landscape of this road continued.

Fushiogami-Oji

A traveler who has traveled a long way,
they can see the Kumano Hongu Shrine area for the first time in here.
But I could not found it.

There is a cafe. I took a break with a cup of coffee.

Onsen coffee. (Hot spring coffee)

It has a little salty taste.

Arrived in an hour from here.

I visited viewing platform.
And I could see Kumano Hongu Shrine.
Can you see The Torii gate in my photo?

Haraido-Oji

It is the last Oji to Kumano Hongu shrine.

Kumano hongu Shrine
